Interventional & Specialist Treatments
Targeted, evidence-based treatments with botulinum toxin and nerve blocks, for conditions that do not respond adequately to standard medication.
Overview
Botulinum toxin (Botox / Dysport) is an established therapeutic option in neurology. It is delivered to targeted points to reduce excessive muscle activity or pain, with a temporary and controlled effect.
It is used for spasticity after stroke or injury, for focal dystonias, for hemifacial spasm and for chronic migraine. Alongside this, an occipital nerve block offers relief for selected headaches and neuralgias. Where greater precision is needed, the injection is performed under ultrasound guidance.
Who it's for
- Spasticity after stroke, traumatic brain injury or cerebral palsy
- Focal dystonias, such as blepharospasm or cervical dystonia
- Hemifacial spasm
- Chronic migraine (headache on 15+ days per month)
- Headaches or neuralgias suitable for an occipital nerve block
Ways to be examined
Botox / Dysport for Spasticity
Botulinum toxin injections to reduce muscle spasticity after stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy or other neurological conditions.
What it includes
Clinical assessment of the spasticity pattern, selection of muscle groups, administration of treatment and follow-up planning.
Botox / Dysport for Dystonia
Treatment for focal dystonias, such as blepharospasm or cervical dystonia.
What it includes
Assessment of dystonia type and distribution, targeted injection and monitoring of the response.
Botox / Dysport for Hemifacial Spasm
Treatment for involuntary contractions on one side of the face.
What it includes
Clinical assessment of the spasm, targeted injection into the affected muscles and re-evaluation.
Botox for Chronic Migraine
An approved treatment for chronic migraine when other therapies are not sufficiently effective.
What it includes
Eligibility assessment based on history, administration per the established protocol and monitoring (usually every 12 weeks).
Occipital Nerve Block
Injection of local anaesthetic (with or without a corticosteroid) around the occipital nerve, to relieve headaches such as migraine, cluster headache or occipital neuralgia.
What it includes
Assessment of the headache type, identification of injection points and administration, with the option to repeat.
Ultrasound-Guided Injection
Targeted botulinum toxin injection under ultrasound guidance, for greater precision in deeper or hard-to-reach muscles.
What it includes
Assessment, planning and injection are carried out exclusively at the Agia Paraskevi practice.
Only at the Agia Paraskevi practice
How the visit works
- 1
Assessment
Clinical assessment of the spasticity, dystonia or headache pattern and eligibility for treatment.
- 2
Planning
Selection of the target muscle groups or points, with ultrasound guidance where required.
- 3
Administration
The injection is given per the established protocol, in a few minutes, in the office.
- 4
Follow-up
Monitoring of the response and scheduling of repeat treatment (usually every 12 weeks).
